What goes around, comes around...

I must say I'll go a little off-track with this entry, however I feel a lot like writing about this.. Of the many and amazing programs the school offers to its students, I believe Leaderhip is a great combination of them all. I was encourage to join the group and after a series of steps I was accepted; WOW did I feel proud! I've sure enjoyed the activities we've had, including field trips, social service activities, and even first aid courses.

However, I would like write a little about the last of our social service activities. The past Saturday, a series of games and tasks were organized for us members to perform along with the students from Hogar Nueva Granada. At the beginning it was, I must accept, not my favorite idea for spending my weekend. It required me to wake up earlier than usual to be at school at 8 am and stay there until noon. Nevertheless, I was somewhat excited by the whole idea.

It was even harder to wake up that day, and the only thing I could think about as I opened my eyes was: why in the world did I get myself into this? But as soon as I met my fellow classmates and got to know a little more about how we would spend the day, I didn't regret any of it. This feeling became even stronger as the children began to arrive. We got to introduce ourselves, get to know each other, and spend valuable time together. Time went by so incredibly fast I was amazed the whole 4 hours were complete, and the feeling left behind from this experience was completely indescribable... H

A King's sport.. What about Queens?

Polo is known for its classy style and is supposed to be played by true gentleman. Is this fair? What about women? Around the world we find loads and loads of polo fans that happen to be women. However, the amount of female teams in polo is extremely low. Why is this? Besides the fact that it is indeed an aggressive and demanding sport, playing polo requires certain characteristcs and conditions that are somewhat difficult to meet. Nevertheless I believe women should be taken more seriously and should be considered potential material. Personally, I would love to be a part of a feminine team but I have found it very, very difficult to find or even create one. Be sure I'll update you on how that goes... in the meantime, just try to pay more attention whenever you catch a woman playing, I'm sure you'll be surprised by how well we can actually do. ;)

Polo? What?

I'm sure lots of you have heard about polo before. But not just Ralph Lauren kind of polo, the sport. I am also pretty sure, however, that most of you are not very sure of what this sophisticated sport consists of. "Polo is a team sport played on horseback in which the objective is to score goals against an opposing team. Players score by driving a small white plastic or wooden ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet. The traditional sport of polo is played at speed on a large grass field up to 300 yards in length, and each polo team consists of four riders and their mounts." Let me put it in other words; it is very similar to playing soccer, only this time we have horses involved. Four players on every team, each one with their own horse, try to score a goal on between two tall separators. They hold a wooden stick with a somewhat small cylinder on the bottom, which they use to move a white plastic ball around and into the goal. That's kind of it, with a whole lot of complicated rules off course that I will later explain. It is actually pretty cool once you get the flow of it, I myself am a fan.
